AN Kit 2: Should I Use the REC Out on My Preamp?

I have pre-ordered a Kit 2, and it will probably be used with a Linn Classik Musics (CD + tuner) with a preamp out (with varaible gain) and a tape REC out. I have talked to Brian and have read on the other threads here that using the variable gain preamp out may overdrive the Kit 2, because there is already a preamp stage on the kit.
My question is: with the gain control on the Kit 2, should I be using the REC out on the Linn instead of the variable preamp out?
Or, can I make a "preamp in" input after the preamp stage on the Kit 2 such that I will use the preamp stage on the Linn instead of the Kit 2? I favor this setup but I'm not sure if it will have any negative impact to the sonic performance of the Kit 2, and I am not sure if this can be done at all (I'm totally new in kit building).

I would use the rec out. Chances are that the Linn's pre isn't as good as the one in the kit2.
I had a Linn amp before a number of valve setups that ended with a Kit1 PQ signature - the Linn is reserved strictly for the kids when they get around to wanting a stereo.
Have you considered putting a switch on the input of the kit2 and doing away with even the rec out method.

    This would be a simple double throw switch at the input. I'm sure Brian could advise further as I believe the new Kit1 Mk2 uses this approach.
    It simply allows multiple line level sources to be switched at the input.

      ... a input source selector, or do you mean a switch that can attenuate the input source when the switch is "on"?

        I have looked at your particular model on the internet. I didn't realise that it was a combination CD/Tuner/Pre-amp/Power amp.
        It looks as if you have two options.
        1. Use the tape out.
        2. Use the Pre out and set it to about 80%.
        I would go for the tape out as this is probably the most unpolluted signal.
        I wouldn't alter the kit2, especially to start with.
        You can always experiment further at a later time but I think you will be happy from the start. Leaving it as-is will also allow you to plan upgrades; otherwise you will be tied to an unusual configuration for ever more.

        Probably a selector. I made an outboard selector box using the same source selector switch Brian ships with the Preamp Kit. The box sits at the back of the shelf. Not the shortest signal path, but it's easier than drilling the chassis for another hole. Plus, and more important, there was no downtime for my Kit 2!
