I am seriously looking at the Synergy 240 power amp to drive my LS3/5As and take a step into transistor amps to get more dynamics out of these speakers and my Tonian Labs TL-D1 speakers than my lower powered SET and PP amps.
The amps i have heard and would really like to try are all $6,000+ and not available locally. I need to take a first step so that the cost of any regret is much lower.

Wrong end of the repro Chain IMO. Buy better quality Speakers instead.
I first heard Ls35a's when they were being Offered to the CBC.. in early 70's.
Universal opinion was No thanks.
Those were Mediocre.. seriously overpriced shoebox sized contraptions.
Admittedly they sounded better than one expect from a Shoebox.
But that's a V small plus. Look Ma: "no hands!"
Similar to a RadioShack Minimus more hype than reality.
Reputedly the 'too many' ressurected versions are even lesser performers, to add insult to injury.
And I was pleased out of the box. Dynamics, bass, highs, headroom, it does well all around. This is driving a pair of restored 1st gen AR9's.Of course you can tube roll too! There is a 12AT7 in the signal path.

Hard to go wrong with AVA, especially if you can get a nice pre-owned amp that has been checked out at the shop.
maybe you just need new tubes as they tend to turn to mush over time.

That's for sure. I got a Citation V and it was putting out about 7 in one channel and 5 in the other. Sounded fine at low volume. Much better with both weak driver and output tubes.
And is he speaking of global feedback in the amps design or is he looking for comments fr on users? : )

I currently have 6 van alstine amps including the 600r. Very reliable and very transparent. I like the tube ones because you can modify the sound via swapping out 12at7 tubes. Been buying his amps since 1975-and the customer support is great. Buy the highest wattage amp you can afford,
