With my modified New Advents, I've used two different (used) $300 amps.
Initially, I ran a NAD 326BEE. Nice performer with decent power and very good top end extension and natural sense of air. Needs good ventilation as it runs toasty. Offers tone controls, sub output and other features which may or may not be considered valuable.
Currently using a Crown XLS-1500 power amp. While the top is a touch sterile and lacking in air, the midrange is wonderful and with 300 watts/channel on tap, it can really crank the Advents. Also, it runs cool which is necessary for my situation where it is situated in a garage closet.

How about an NAD 2400 or 2700? They have gobs of power, with input level controls too. No preamplifier is necessary.
The 2700 is interesting, she was using my old 3400, which was 100 watts and still could have used more power.
It's all about the music!
