No hum in any other mode except phono,hum is across both channels the bit of info... I had the phono wires replaced in the tonearm several months ago!

I would guess that the hum originates with your ecord player. The reason you get it in stereo and not mono is that pressing the mono button sums the channels and -hum and the +hum cancel each other out.
So I am afraid it will be the sometimes lengthy process of tracking down the precise culprit. But it will likely be somewhere between your cartridge and the phono input, including the grounding.
Have you tried disconnecting the ground wire that is connected between the arm and the grounding point on the amp? Note I am NOT referring to any power grounding. Also check that the headshell wires aren't touching each other.
Is this a recent occurence or did you notice it when the rewired arm came back to you?
