I recently got my old school stereo out of storage where it has been for the last 16 years. It is comprised of Denon components, amp is a POA 1500, preamp is PRA 1000, Denon cd, turntable and tuner, Klipsch Cornwall speakers. My problem is the preamp, no output on one channel at all, the other is very poor quality lots of static and low volume. I can bypass the preamp and plug components into the amp directly and everything works great. Is this enough info for someone to speculate what the problem may be?? I am not a audiophile but I have worked with pc boards and have the capability to repair them if I knew what to do. One other note is if you tap the power supply all sound will shut off momentarily then come back. Thanks Dave E

It may be a tape monitor switch, or a dirty muting relay.
Have you checked the RCA cables going from preamp to amp? I would look at those first. They can get corroded over time an loose connection.....
Also get a can of Deoxit D5 and spray all external connections. Plug and uplug things after a spray to help clean the contacts. If you are comfortable, open the top to see of you can access the switches and knobs. Give them a shot and exercise them well. A second shot of deoxit just in case, then give things a try.
As Audiosoul mentioned, things get corroded sitting unused for a long time and need a little TLC to get them to come back. For that it's worth a shot!

We can all speculate but that's it.
