Thanks for the reply. It's an old preamp and on the digital read out it show where it's at. I'm using a MacBook Pro and an ifiNano DAC and Audirvana Plus 2.2.4 in place of iTunes all this in place of a CD player. All my music is diff. but at one time it went in the opposite direction to a lessor volume. This happens not fast but over about a 30 second time.Once it went from -24dB to -8 before I shut it down. I have Paradigm 100 speakers. In any case some have told me that it's an easy fix but here in Albuquerque, NM not any high end repair shops. If it is bad I just want an idea of a replaement of close to that quality. I have a low budget.
Follow Ups:
I believe that this pre-amp has a remote volume control and that this remote is infra-red.
IR remotes are subject to interference including from strong sunlight which can resemble an instruction to the control particularly if the sunlight is partially reflected. It's not the only reason however and other devices may play a part.
To check things out just obscure the IR receptor window in the pre with some tape. That may eliminnate a fault in the pre.
There's always a cause (including faulty components)and nothing in electronics just does things of its own accord.
where is the IR Receptor window? as per the photo I sent?
I am sorry that I didn't get back to you on your question as quickly as you would have preferred but please appreciate that I am somewhere else on the planet. In my time zone your question and follow up were made in the middle of the night whilst I was alseep.
The likely location for the IR receiver window is either at the left hand or right hand margin of the entire display window. That is either beneath the "B&K" or beneath the "LTD". Try both.
No Problem on the reply. I don't know where your located. Thanks for the tip on me trying to fix the problem.
Yes on the ComputerAudio phile forum they said there are so many IR signals bouncing around it could be that.I use no remote controls with my preamp. But I will try and find that place where you said to put tape over. Here is a photo I copied from the web of my pre amp where would I place the tape/ Thanks for your help.
You could try both the left and right.
Sorry Left and right what?
