I recently acquired a non-working Parasound HCA-1000 power amp, it powers on, at least the green light is on. But no output. There is no "click" when it's powered on, like other Parasound amps I have owned.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be the problem?
Thanks
Thomas
Follow Ups:
I saw a small amount of leakage around the power supply caps, removed the board and saw some major damage to the board, 3 of the 4 caps had leaked and there was a hole right through the board. I had to repair 2 traces, removed the toasted parts and installed new caps. It started right up, no hum and after 30 minutes I adjusted bias. I had wanted to increase the bias(on recommendation from John Curl), at the 10 mv recommendation from Parasound, the heatsinks don't even get lukewarm. One side was easily adjustable, and I increased it to 18mv. The other channel won't adjust past 11mv. Not sure if it's a bad trim pot or bias resistor. In any case, it sounds just fine.

Excellent Thomas!
Agreed with ALL who said 'relay'. I give it 90%.
IF the relay is 'socketed' a simple replacement may work. If the time delay is EXTERNAL that may be the problem.
Some relays ARE time delay and adjustable. I'd at least LOOK into the case.
Too much is never enough
Parasound also said the relay timing circuit, worth fixing.

He helped me with a HCA-1500A many moons ago.

how long ago did you repair your HCA-1500 ?
A connector off the big circuit board, and I called Parasound to ask about it before futzing around inside the amplifier. Tony gave me the info I needed quickly and courteously. I have a fondness for John Curl designed amplifiers.

Yes, the HCA series was special indeed.
I know a guy who uses an HCA of some sort. Sounded fine to me, and he likes it, too.If I could get one for a reasoable price, it'd be mine right now (assuming it's the model with more-than-adequate current, and plenty of output transistors, and...).

Sounds like the relay died.
Green light means the relay is getting power
to the coil winding but with no click
it means the relay isn't working.

Thomas-
consult Parasound and keep me posted as you get this amp fixed.
The HCA series is excellent and still relevant, IMO.
Have you called Parasound and described the problem?http://parasound.com/support.php

they will respond, and they will service old units - for a modest fee.
