What are they? Is the chassis to the right the power supply? What about the rest? What are the specs?
Yeah, Dennis made some really great products during his Cary days. Looks like he's still at it doing what he enjoys most.
If I had to choose two of my favorite Dennis Had creations they would have to be the AES/Cary SixPac EL34 monoblocks and the Cary SLP-05 tube line stage. I've never heard those large 805 series monoblocks but I bet they're pretty sweet too.
Follow Ups:
The unit on the right is a SET stereo power amp. The IFA-1. It uses Tung-sol 6384 power tubes. One per channel. The small tube is a Pope 6DJ8 or soon to be 6CG7. The power rectifier is an Emission Labs 274 mesh plate. The amp delivers 8 watts of pure class A power per channel. The unit on the left is the LP-27a pre-amp. It uses 27 or 56 radio tubes. They are similar to 6SN7 and 6SL7. In the picture are Philco 27's. The smaller tube is a Tung-sol 6BX7GT. The rectifier is a Philco 80. It has 12db of gain. I'm using Nola Contender's...true 90db 8 ohm load...driven to fairly high levels. The DAC is a piece of Schiit Gungnir. Nice DAC!
Got to say...system is really sounding sweet. Very resolving. Amazingly, these OLD tubes are totally quite and not microphonic at all. Great extension top to bottom. Even just streaming TIDAL. Just a lot of fun and easy to use...compared to my main rig.
Thanks for the info.
I'd love to try low to modest power SET someday but I would feel more confident about it if I had speakers that were known to be up to the task.
I suspect that my Tannoys are probably border line at best. Even though they are rated 91dB 6 Ohm nom., they tend to come 'alive' with dynamics with a decent amount of power, 50-watts or more, it seems.
Yes, the speakers are not an easy solution. Especially if you want a good modern design. But I went in knowing this and tried a few different speakers and its a bedroom, late night, early morning system, so high volume is not that important. The presentation is amazing and the tubes are a lot of fun. Old radio tubes are cheaper than more popular ones.
BTW, one of my favorite past systems was the Sixpac's with an SLP98. I also had the 805 amps, but they just could not drive my Magico S5's. Dennis, btw, is a supper cool guy to talk and deal with. These amps are very personal to him and he is having fun!!!
