In Reply to: RE: Finally gave away my Denon 4806 receiver. End of an era. Donated it to a local Goodwill. posted by John Elison on August 26, 2015 at 22:00:26
So being retired I listen to music most of the day every day!
The receiver was for surround duties with the TV.. but I found I almost never used it. So I decided to clean house.
True I could have sold it (and the Canton speakers) but I decided I would rather give them away.
(I took the Canton CD300 pair, and 3 Canton CD360 The number part may be mixed up, the tall front pair, then a smaller middle and two rear surround which had the same internals as the large ones, took them to Goodwill today.)

Ah, I'm retired, too. I have my audio system integrated with my video system, but I don't use surround either. I'm perfectly happy with two channel stereo for both audio and video. My OPPO BDP-105D is the heart of my entertainment system but I used to enjoy playing records, though not so much anymore. Digital has gotten to sound very good nowadays and vinyl is such a hassle.
Nearfield listening with your Thiels? Or is that just the way it seems from that pic?
Everyone thinks I'm strange except my friends deep inside the earth
Yeah, I listen near-field.
