Hi my name is James and Im new to this forum. Im also new to the audio world. I have a question I hope I can get some help. I own a yamaha 5890 receiver with the manual. But it doent say weather I can play the preouts hooked to an amplifier and zone 2 hooked to an amplifier at the same time. As to generate music from one cd to come out of the preouts and zone 2 simultaneously. Or would this be to much on the receiver preouts signals?

...With the 5890 you can use either external amplifiers in zone two and zone three or the use the 5890 as an amp for zone two but not for zone three.
The main pre-outs are independent from zone two & zone three (at line level for zone 2 & 3 and at speaker level for zone 2 - there is no speaker level out for zone 3, only line level out)
Have fun.

The pre out will not affect the other outputs, it will just drive the amp that's connected to it, if the others are playing or not.
The receiver that I use for HT (Sony) needs to have the speaker output off-neither a nor b,or a+b.This allows the pre-outs to operate. When the speakers are selected, the pre-outs are off.You cannot use both for some reason.
Don't know the logic behind your unit and especially a "zone 2" set-up.

Thanks! One of the reasons I ask is I was told by a friend that the yamaha out put signal was too low to drive 2 amps at the same time and I didnt want to pruchase the second amp till I was sure.
