That was my exact suspicion upon reading the OP. If me, I'd get it looked into. Bad PS cap can do untold damage downstream ... ask me how I know.
I can tell you. Just smell my burnt amp and blown out speakers. Happened around 2007.
I would have it checked. Or try turning the preamp on first then the amp. See if it still pops. If there are ANY noises - hum, issues - service it!
