Hi Henry,
If not and just plain old 6SN7 or VT-231 will work, then I recommend trying the Raytheon VT-231's. They are not expensive and from my experience, other than the costly Tungsol VT-231 Blackplates, they have very good midrange and balance top to bottom. If there are several samples that you can choose from, choose the Raytheons with "anchors" (Navy) in addition to the Orange letterings on the black base of this particular bottom getter tube.
Sometimes, when the circuit is designed for GTB/GTA's, regular 6SN7 or VT-231 sounds thin as it is being biased so high(life of the tube is affected too!). In this case, I will recommend CBS short bottle 6SN7 GTB side getters and the Raytheon 6SN7GTB(Black base, yellow letterings, side getters).

There is always just one more thing........
There are basically three types: T plates, flat plates and flat plates with brass support rods. I prefer the T plates.

I have never seen a Modulus 3 that could use 6SN7 tubes.

It was the Rogue that he mentioned using 6SN7's.
