He should find the matching resistor in the other channel to verify the required value AND wattage rating. If it's a cathode resistor, usually the bigger resistor, I think that means that the tube caused it's destruction and ought to be replaced as well.[Be sure to replace with the identical type as well, usually, non-flaming. Do not just replace with any old resistor.]

They make resistors out of asbestos?

Not a funny matter if you ever experience a resistor going up in flames. My big booboo. Cost me about $500 in resale value!
Burnt resistors in ANY amp is no joke!

I've fixed many boards with burned parts. Not in the audio industry.
The BIG hassle is when the board is 'charcoaled' by the malfunction and than becomes conductive.
Also, and maybe next in line, would be when the malfunction takes out some traces ON the board.
The traces on modern logic boards, to take an example, are just short of microscopic.
In all honesty, while I'm NOT a fan of tubes, I must also say that SS gear can do the SAME thing and for similar reasons, like shorts in a semiconductor, or maybe a stuck relay, that sort of thing.
MAYBE a device with point-to-point wiring will have a Slight advantage here. If a resistor smokes, it may take out associated circuitry or be Caused by the tube going wacky, but at least you won't burn up a circuit board at the same time.

I converted a $1000 amp to a $500 amp!
Yep, what a mess.
Interesting that I finally found the culprit, a bad solder joint. Couldn't see it for years and just replaced tubes. Now I've been going on a couple of years with ZERO trouble.
It's an Anthem AMP-1, probably one of the lowest cost good amps out there. Anything more expensive, and one should probably be sending it back to the factory.
