Can be taken to the bank.

I heard Avantgarde Duos years ago at CES driven by all BAT gear. My favorite room that year. I have never heard these speakers sound better with SET (I know, I owned a pair for several years). Now I understand that a good deal of that BAT/Duo sound was due to Jim Smith's (Avantgarde US distributor at the time) substantial system setup skills. Still, it proved to me that Avantgarde speakers can sound exceptional with non-SET, higher power amps.
He was involved in both of the above mentioned episodes. In several other cases we did the setups together with the Avantgarde people, and it was their designer, Mathias, who told me not to be afraid to give them plenty of power. We usually used the 150W monoblocks there.
In my personal experience, as one of that brand's user, they sometimes sound too polite with low power amps. Some people might like that sound, but as I mentioned, in my view, they truly open up with more power.
My 107dB Duo Omegas actually fare much better with 3.5wpc 2A3 monos than they did with 8wpc 300B monos (particularly in the bass - despite the powered subs, if one connects the amps using speaker level inputs rather than the line-level inputs, the external amps' bass character comes shining through, and the 300B seemed flabby compared to the 2A3).
However, I get far better results with 18wpc monos - the Lamm ML2 series. So, despite the seeming need for only a few watts of power, my experience reflects those of other posters in this thread, that a little extra juice can be a good thing indeed.

My experience is much the same. I had an Art Audio PX-25 amplifier that sounded far better than the more powerful 300B Audio Note offering, but I prefer the 845 monos overall for its better coping with big scale orchestral music in particular.
I'm concluding that I shouldn't be scared of a seemingly grossly overpowered amp and I'm now looking at solid state amps that others with Avantgarde speakers have found ideal.

Given the above advice and observations, I'll stick my neck out with saying the Pass xa30.5 or .8 would be FINE and dandy. I'll bet the meter will rarely if EVER move.
Too much is never enough
