listening to it and it is amazing. I've had it in my system for about 6 months and I love it more every day. It replaced a $30,000 Wavac SET. If you don't wait until the price goes up you should find someone who will sell you one for your price. It is a whole different amp from the .5 and a huge step up. I reviewed on Dagogo, but lots of people have. We all love it. By the way first piece of gear from Pass I've ever owned.

Thanks Reuben and Jnr. The Pass Labs 30.5 or 30.8 are certainly on my short list, but I'm interested in the alternatives that Blazer has found to be better than these with his Trio speakers - and considerably less costly. These are the NAD M22 and Benchmark AHB2.
Well, I listen for more than just if it makes noise with no music coming out. I have heard both amps, if it's music you are looking for they aren't close. By the way I use 104db speakers and I can't hear any noise out of the pass normally, but with some preamps I might hear a bit if I stick my ear in the speaker.

Jnr, if I understood your post correctly you've heard both NAD M22 and Benchmark AHB2 and were not impressed. Could you provide greater detail of your impression and maybe compare to the Pass. Thanks
Yes, and they are both very good amps, but very different in sound. The NAD is much warmer and more forgiving. The Benchmark is very quick, more transparent and has better microdynamics. Still they are both in the league with say a Honda Accord. In other words an exceptional amp for the money. Comparing them to the Pass Labs 30.8 is like comparing them to a supper car. If you read my review I think it's the best amp I have ever heard. No, I haven't heard the Pass Labs XS amps but they are way to big, way more power than I need. I can't imagine going from an 845 amp like you have to either of the other amps. I have a friend that had the Line Magnetic 845 and was thrilled with it, but he still just replaced with the 30.8.
As I said earlier I did not feel this way about the 30.5 though I thought it was very good and easily better than the NAD or the Benchmark. One more time this is the first Pass Labs product I have ever liked enough to keep in my system and the first transistor amp I have owned in over 30 years.

Thanks jnr. It's most interesting to compare your impressions of these amplifiers with Blazar's at the AVS forum. You seem to have reached very different conclusions.
I wonder if you could take a quick look at these lead postings and comment on his observations? He admits that low noise level is a most important factor - perhaps too important - but his opinions on the SOUND of these 3 amps is convincing. He uses Avantgarde, as I do, but your speakers are also highly efficient. Perhaps they respond to the amplifier in significantly different ways.
Thanks
Peter
Sorry jnr - here's the other lead posting
Thanks Jnr!
