My preamp pops when switching inputs, however, it seems related to the DAC plugged into it, in that the pop occurs when switching from whatever input the DAC is plugged into. Help with cause and cure? Thanks.

As Ralph suggests, there might be a DC offset on your DAC's analog outputs to your preamp. I had a similar problem and I discovered my DAC had 7-volts DC on its output. I removed it and the problem went away.
If you have a digital multimeter you can disconnect your DAC from your preamp and measure the DAC output with a DC voltmeter. This might tell you what's going on.
Good luck,

You have a bug in the DAC. Its either making RFI or its putting out a small amount of DC.
Thanks. is there a way of blocking the DC through an external filter of some kind?
Its not supposed to put out DC, nor Radio Frequency Interference, if that is what is going on. It likely does not sound as good as it should either.
Thanks. I've sent an email to Audiolab. The DAC was doing this right from the start.
-Report back when you get it sorted.
What happens when the volume on the pre is all the way down and you switch inputs? Any pop? Second is the DAC power by a Wallwart that does not have a polarized AC plug? (can be plugged in either way) If it does reverse that plug and see.

Reversed the plug. Still pops.
What is the DAC's source? Is a CD transport plugged into it or a PC or music server of some sort? Is just one thing plugged into it or are more than one thing plugged into the DAC?

Two things are plugged into the DAC; a cd player used as transport via coax, and computer via USB.
disconnect the USB from the computer and see if it still happens.

Still happens.
No pop when volume is right down. I'll try the reversal. thanks.
Your DAC has some DC on the output. When turning the volume down, the amp can't pick it up. What make of DAC and amp?

Both Audiolab, M-dac and 8200mb respectively.
