Perhaps this could be something with DC offset?
DC offset can cause a toroid power transformer to mechanically vibrate loudly but it would not cause a hum heard through the speakers. A power transformer will not pass DC offset.
You said 'new amp' in your original posted message. Did you buy it from a dealer in your area? If so I would take it to the dealer's store and have him hook it up to a pair of his speakers. If it hums there he should replace the amp with a another new one if you just bought it from him.
A bad electrolytic filter cap in the power supply of the amp will cause a pretty loud hum/buzz.
If it is not new I would take it to friends house and plug it in there and check for the hum. If it hums at your friends house that will tell you 100% it is not a 120V AC mains power problem.
Follow Ups:
I bought it through Coincident - took almost three weeks to get here (Oregon), and I've only had it for 24 hours. The thought of sending it back to Canada for service is very frustrating. I'll see what Coincident has to say.
Take it to a friend or relative's house first and try it there before you contact Coincident. If it hums the same at a different house fed from their mains power that eliminates your AC power from being the problem. It also saves a lot of time for you and Coincident just thinking it could be your home's AC power causing the hum.
