Does anyone have information on the 7C with Sid Smith's modifications?
Follow Ups:
Sid completely reworked a few units in the 80's. Basically he started over with this preamp retaining only the chassis and transformer. Stripped out all the controls, dedicated for phono applications. Rather than using 12AX7 he used Telefunken ECC803S. When sources for quality tubes ran out Sid quit making the preamp.
Extremely rare only 38 units where made. If you are lucky enough to find one it will be extremely expensive. Count on spending at least $10K probably more. HP raved about the unit considering it as good as anything available in the 80's.
I have seen/heard this preamp on many occasions and it is an incredible unit. I was actually lucky enough to see the unit Sid modified for Wilma C. Fine.
Great information. Thank you.
