I've spent a lot of time at the local dealer listening to several integrated amps from them. I understand about the DAC issue though. I was also impressed with the newest integrated amps from NAD. In fact I don't think it's fair to regard them as "nice for the price"...they sound very good regardless.

Thanks. Which NAD models did you like, by the way? I was interested in the 390DD before I decided to buy the upgrade to my DAC instead, but I don't think it would serve my purposes now, given that I am happy with the way the upgrade turned out. I presume you are referring to some of the lower-priced NADs?
I was also impressed by the 390DD but based on what you originally posted I'd say the 356BEE might be an option. Yeah I know it's not pretty, but I really enjoyed how it sounds. I had a very hard time hearing a difference between it and an NAD M3 that they took in on trade.
NAD is pretty solid but does have it's house sound. I do like their bigger powered stuff - like the C356BEE. That's why I use a NAD C275BEE power amp.
I know a few people with the C356BEE and they seem to be quite happy with it. Ton's of power, clear as a bell and very well controlled bass. My only review issue is NAD integrated amps tend to be leaner on the midrange. But EVERY integrated has it's own sound.
I also like my Marantz PM8004 VERY much. However!!!! it can be picky on which speaker it likes. Mine seems to line the Monitor Audio RX2.
As for Hegal - I would either hold off and let others beta test it. Just my two cents.
