I have a Krell KSL pre-amp. It has on tape input and one tape output. I'm trying to find a device that will expand the tape input/output. I bought a Pro-Ject Switch Box thinking it would solve my problem. Unless I'm hooking it incorrectly it didn't.
I was using a dbx 200. The dbx 200 produces a hum that resulted in me thinking the problem was a bad amplifier (mono blocks). I bought new cables and a new power amp not thinking the hum could been come from the dbx 200. Once I removed the dbx 200 no more humming sound about 2,000 dollars later.
Does anyone know of device that is similar to the dbx 200 that I can purchase and has anyone purchased the device?
Thanks, Ballou

If it is the $179 (US) w/RCA and 3.5mm mini jacks it should work fine. It won't allow dubbing from one of the devices connected to it to another device connected to it. This means if you had a reel to reel and a cassette connected to it you couldn't copy from one deck to the other through that switch. Couldn't find a bigger image.

The model you have an image of appears to be the one I purchased. What does not make sense are the instructions. The instructions talk about connecting it to the Pro-Ject Pre-Box, which I did not purchase. Absent the Pro-Ject Pre-Box having more RCA inputs/outs there are not enough RCA connectors on Pro-Ject Switch Box to connect it to my pre-amp's tape input/output so that I can connect my reel-to-reel or my AM/FM turner.
So, if you can please tell me how to connect the Pro-Ject Switch Box to my pre-amp without the Pre-Box. Thanks for the help.
OK you said you want to hook up a reel to reel and a tuner. Is that all?
Next do you want to be able to record on the reel to reel?
Are there any other tape decks?
So if it is just the two pieces you mentioned connect the output of the reel to reel to what is labeled as "input 2" on the project with a set of RCA cables.
Connect the tuner to "input 3" on the project with a cable with RCA's on one end (assuming that's what the tuner requires) and a stereo 3.5mm stereo mini plug on the other end which plugs into "input 3".
Connect the power supply (required for the relays to switch between the projects inputs) and connect the "output" to aux if you have it on your preamp. You can use "tape in" on your pre amp but you won't be able to record from the tuner this way.
If it is just one tape deck connect a set of cables from "tape out' on the pre amp to "tape in" or whatever the input is called on your reel to reel. This way when the tuner is selected you can record from it on the reel to reel.

ET thanks very much for the very quick response. Now the 3.5mm inputs make sense. I hope someone from Pro-Ject is reading this because the instructions for their device do not come close to mentioning using 3.5mm stereo mini cables to install it to anything! Nothing!!
After my last post I Google'd Pro-Ject Switch Box. I got Niles Audio Corporation AXP-1 Auxiliary Input Selector for $99.00. The Niles instructions are very clear. Assuming the ratings are legit, it is highly rated on Amazon and I've heard of Niles Audio.
Had my Google search come up with Niles 10 months ago I would have purchased it instead of the Pro-Ject. It's 11 pm on the east coast. I do not have any 3.5mm stereo mini cables. Will get one ASAP and attempt to install per your instructions.
Lastly, I would like to record to my reel-to-reel from my CD player if possible.
So I take it that the CDP is plugged into S2. So choose S2 and make sure the tape out on the Krell is plugged into the reel to reel as discussed.

Why can't you run the tuner into one of the regular analog inputs of the preamp?
it has only two SE inputs (RCA) and the tape monitor (RCA) the other inputs are balanced. If he has the optional phono board that would take one of the SE inputs. Good images at the link.

Krell manual:http://www.krellonline.com/assets/support/KSL2_MAN.pdf
Manual states if optional phono board it installed it uses SE input #`1 which would leave him with only one input and a tape monitor. Of course RCA to XLR adapters could be used too.
Thanks. Krell has never been generous with inputs for some reason.
I'm wondering the same. What pre and what is connected to it and where.....
