Is it possible to bridge a multi channel amp (7 channel) down to two.
This was in my home theater at one time and is now in my music system which
Is stereo.the amp is an ATI 1807. I have sent them the same question but got no response. Little help fellas.
Follow Ups:
The manual states nothing about any sort of bridging capability, which I would figure an amp like this should be able to do with 6 of the 7 channels...
I was interested briefly in this amp, as Siegfried Linkwitz uses one for his Orion loudspeakers (sans any bridged channels), so I had downloaded the manual at one point...

Dman, I was a little surprised myself when I could nothing in the manual or their website. The amp itself is just fine, I have no complaints. It's just that I wish I could use all of the channels for music like I did with movies. Music is so much more important.
switches for such changes or at least indications on the speaker connectors. If there aren't, chances are it isn't an option.
Opus 33 1/3
When you bridge two channels into one, that channel "sees" only one half the actual load impedance of the speaker attached to it. So, an 8-Ohm speaker is seen as a 4-Ohm load and a 4-Ohm speaker a 2-Ohm load. Not many amps are happy seeing 2-Ohm loads, so it's usually best to use 8-Ohm speakers with a bridged amplifier.
Opus 33 1/3
If all the amps have a common ground, it should be possible to bridge two pairs of amplifiers by inverting the signal to one of each pair and connecting your speakers to the two hot speaker terminals of each pair. If you have a balanced output on your preamp, it would be easy to fabricate a special cable to extract the non-inverted signal from pin 2 and the inverted signal from pin 3 to bridge a pair of power amplifiers.
Good luck,
