I am currently using a McIntosh C32 pre-amp with a MC2205 power-amp. My local dealer(hi-fi dealer) has a ARC SP 8 that I can afford. It has new tubes and has been checked over thoroughly. Is this a worthy upgrade over my McIntosh? It has the phono pre. Please share any thoughts. I like the McIntosh stuff, but have been looking to get tubes in my system. I thought I would go tube power amp but this is available now.

Follow Ups:
The SP8 was known to be the "lush" brethren to the SP6 that I owned. Stellar midrange with somewhat less successful extremes.
I think its safe to say it falls into the "tubey" camp if that's what you seek. And will most certainly not have the light show appeal of the Mac if that is important.
Best You listen and decide for yourself, in your system, do keep in mind the ARC is a maintenance pre, if you can deal with that , then yeah ...

Either bring in your gear or ask the dealer if you can home-demo the ARC.
...ask the dealer if you can bring your pre in to compare the two.
That is my plan. Just asking for opinions before I get there.

...compare and listen for yourself first.
Then read the comments - they might influence what your opinion.
I am listening to the ARC now. My dealer(Ultrafidelis) graciously let me bring it home. I know that it has new tubes and will break in,but here is my initial impression. The most noticeable difference is with electric guitar. Stevie Ray Vaughn's Riviera Paradise is so rich and lush. Vocals are also very real sounding. But, the difference is more subtle than I would have guessed. The bass is definitely not as well defined as with the McIntosh pre-amp. I will probably buy it because of the lush guitar tones. The McIntosh is prettier. I have more listening to do before I decide. At least I know I can get my money's worth from my McIntosh C32.
