I tried and REALLY liked this amp, when I tried it with a loaner tubed preamp.
I would appreciate recommendations.
My choices are so far.

Any recommendations?
Any comments?

The Metis is at the upper edge of my budget, but I CAN swing it. However I have to be sure this preamp is going to be what I need. I'm looking to bring in a warmer "tubish" sound to my system.
Again, the amp is a NAD C275BEE which I do like it. It has a very nice quality of NOT adding anything to sound. It only amplifies what's in front of it. And tubes would be a nice addition.
I'm basically a vintage man. My main preference for listening is a Sherwood S-5000 vintage integrated amp. I'm NOT looking to replace it. This is just a secondary system for the times I feel I want a break from the routine.
The Bottlehead 300b preamp seems a little to risky at this point. Being that it is in the realm of DIYers and tweakers. I'm WELL past that point and NO longer want to tinker.
The VTA zpreamp seems to be a solid contender. It's a good bang for the buck and well in my price range.
The Metis is at the "having to explain why I need another stereo" point. And I see that there are about $40 in upgrades. Making it around $2k.
So the end question is Bang for the buck vs the long explanation. Again this is a secondary system.
thanks

Just find a nice CJ PV10AL, or PV10A if you want phono stage, even the newer 10B. Great tube sound for well below a grand.
It has lots of gain, but that should not be a problem with the Nad, as it has adjustable input on the back. I have been there done that, and sorry I sold it.
On the other hand, if you are really done with tweaking and DIY as you said, a tube pre will have you in there rolling tubes in no time.
It never ends.

Rogue Audio.
I used a deHavilland UltraVerve with my NAD C320BEE and it was outstanding. Great sound, build and company.
I had the Metis years ago it's a real nice preamp.
I understand they've tweaked it a bit since then so it's even better now.
Rogue is a solid company with great customer service. You'll never have an orphan from Rogue.

Are there any, or did you have any upgrades added. Like upgrade capacitors, etc....
Thanks
