EPL loop is basically a tape loop but designed so when using the theater out disables the preamp gain for use with a Dolby processor ( use the processor to set overall gain to keep all channels in calibration). Use main gain to set front two channels only.
Since you're using pre feed to a receiver, you can use either out put. My get best sound feeding main out to receiver amp input
Follow Ups:
C-J says that any source signal will be present at the EPL OUT jack. So, if I understand what you're saying, I can choose either EPL OUT or Theater OUT to feed the DAC signal to the receiver's CD IN. EPL OUT will have gain controlled by the C-J volume controls; for Theater OUT (unity gain) the gain is controlled by the receiver's volume control. Right?
I'm not clear on what you mean by "get best sound feeding main out to receiver amp input." The C-J "Main" OUTs will remain connected to the amp in my main system. The receiver I'm using for a headphone amp is an old Parasound DR65. It's only inputs are the line sources (CD, Tape 1 or 2, plus phono) so any input from the C-J will feed into the receiver's preamp section. I don't want fry anything.
No EPL out is fixed at input gain, in other words volume in is volume out. You are bypassing vc on cj. Think of it as tape out. EPL in completed this dort of tape loop.
Use unity gain out for your recvr using its vc's.
