Currently, the Krell Foundation lacks an OSD, so it is somewhat difficult to set up in general but I understand that is changing.
But you are going in the right direction by examining the manuals since the spec sheets and ads are superficial. Also, I do strongly recommend Parasound but know that the P7 is a purely analog preamp which will add a sub output to analog signals as well as provide stereo/multichannel bypass. (Below is a link to my review.) Frankly, had I not been able to find an Audio Research MP1 for my system, I would have bought the P7.

The Krell Foundation should do just what you are looking if I understand your question. It will do 2.1 and gives you various setup options for how the 2.1 will function (full range or small for your mains).
Also as an FYI, with the new 4k compatible Foundation, the units will now include an On Screen Display.
The Foundation is a really an incredible nice pre/pro.

The Foundation is spectacular as a two channel preamp.
