Didn't the Mk II version have a substantially larger transformer (the single one behind the faceplate?
Regarding the bass, do you think the onset of bass notes was a bit firmer, crisper in the Mk II than the Mk I?

Don't think the power transformer changed, but it has been more than a decade ago. Looking at pics on ARCDB , it doesn't seem to be the case.
Yes, bass was tighter and crisper on my Acoustats.
I owned the VT100mkII and thought the bass was full bodied and dynamic. It mated very well with my Thiel CS1.5 and Tannoy Definition D500 speakers. I believe the power supply in the mkII had more filter caps.
BTW, the main photo of the ARC VT100 on the ARCDB is of my VT100mkII from many years ago. I took that photo in my living room.
