Sigh.. I'm an Arcam owner... for too many years.
Yup! drank the Kool Aid etc.
Have/had a twin Amp setup, Yes a fair expenditure
Recently fitted my diy 3886 based amp (a time waster project intended as a toy) into my 'real ' system as a Lark.
Darned thing made my Beloved Arcam sound like a Kids' toy..Seriously! Deeper / sharper Bass, Massively more 3d Soundstage and crystal clear extedned highs. Epiphany time. This on Tannoy GRF's
I feel like I've been participating in the Emperor's Clothes Saga.
In short: My view of Arcam is currently about Toilet Bowl level of respect.
Myopia / complacency and believing what others claim..
has Serious costs my friend.
Follow Ups:
Great to here how well your 3886 chip amp is performing. I'm not surprised. My Arcam FMJ A19 uses the 3886 and it is outstanding. Like you, it looks like Arcam found out how good the 3886 chip is.
A 3886 chip is ~6$. An Amp built to the TI datasheet 'should' run 10/15$ in parts... Retail. (there are V few bits required).
Grasp the concept of "chip Amp"
Is that what Arcam charges??
Unlikely :-) and Even More likely the bungle the design.
Not even bothering to follow the data sheet schematics.
But Hey! they think they know More than TI.
I don't expect Arcam to survive the decade.
