Admittedly I listen exclusively thru headphones and have for quite a while,
but I have auditioned amps from many manufacturers over the past decade or
so and have developed the following short list of manufacturers whose amps
I would actively consider under the right circumstances:
Rogue
Ayre
VTL
BAT
Quicksilver
Back in the day, I was highly partial to Sonic Frontiers amps. Alas, SF
has been OOB for quite some time.
Follow Ups:
Mcintosh
Harman Kardon
Heathkit
Altec (Peerless)
Scott
Fisher
Sherwood
Leak
Quad
Not in any particular order.

I might very possibly in a pinch consider tubes again. But for now, I'm leaning towards the Sand-side of things.
I'm still suffering PTSD-like symptoms from dealing with the old ARC amp; to this day (even last night), EVERY TIME I sit down to listen to the system, my mind keeps repeating, "what will blow up next?" (yes, the ARC actually did BLOW UP once. An easy repair (bad PS diode), but still. it has left me jaded for the moment.
OTOH, with winter getting ready to make its appearance, some toasty 6550s or similar would "warm up" the room quite well. Gotta find the right power and sound for the budget...

Depending on how far "back in the day" you are talking, we may have crossed "sonic paths", as I was the production line head for the Power 2 amplifier, just before the SE stuff came on (I was there 1996-1998). If you are talking earlier than that, I was still a kid in the audio world (and in some ways, I still am!)...

Have you had a chance to ever hear Parts Connexion upgraded Line 3 and SFP-1?
I've always wanted them and wondered if the are worth the money of upgrading?
