...let me mention a few you may like:
"Clapton Unplugged" is a classic, both sonically and musically
Any of the Jackson Browne Live albums including the one with David Lindley
Stones "Get Your Ya Yas Out" has been remastered
Who "Live at Leeds" remaster
Led Zeppelin "Celebration Day"
Follow Ups:
Most of the "Unplugged" albums do well, Nirvana being one of my favorites. But the venue is small, the music (somewhat) unamplified. Along those same lines, Cowboy Junkies Trinity Session has been one of my deserted island disks for more than twenty years.
When I think of live rock albums, I immediately think of those recorded in large stadiums, back in the olden days, and knee-jerk an equation of bad sound. But after posting about Grand Funk Live yesterday, I did recall a live rock LP I loved and played endlessly in 1974, Deep Purple's Made In Japan.
Doors, Absolutely Live...captures the bands energy well...
AC/DC, If you want blood...this one has Bon Scott at his best...
Tom Petty, Damn the Plantation...great live show...
U2, Under a Blood Red Sky...Redrocks...
Cheap Trick, Live at Budokan...just a classic IMHO...
Police, LIVE...disc one is a small venue show in Boston...nice...
NONE of these are sonic marvels in any stretch of the word...BUT they are all good live albums...
Honorable mentions...
Peter Frampton, Frampton comes Alive...got over played...for me...
Ted Nugent, Double live Gonzo...I was in 9th grade when this came out, my Mother hated it...
Just my $.02
thanks
Mark
Not to hijack the thread, but Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus" remaster. It doesn't get much better.
Happy listening,
Jim
