BCR: The audio system is plugged into a general lighting circuit. With all lights turned off, the buzz persists. I unplugged all of the audio/video components (one by one). The buzz stopped only when the preamp & the power amp were unplugged. I hope that narrows things down a bit.
Follow Ups:
You have to find out if the preamp or the power amp is the culprit.
I would plug one component into the power amp directly,if you have no buzz then you verified the problem is the preamp.
BCR: Following your advice, I disconnected the preamp from the power amp. Then I connected the CD player directly into the power amp. No buzz. With the preamp out of the loop, this seems to suggest that the problem lies in the preamp. Correct? Unfortunately, my diagnostic skills probably end here.
Hi Kitjv, yes that proves that the problem is with the preamp. If you replaced the tubes and the IC's and the problem remains you will have to give Audio Research a call and have them check it out.
Thank you. I plan to contact Audio Research tomorrow. Thank you so much.
