I think he was just verbalizing his thought process as he was about to pull the trigger on a new piece of audio gear.
I've often waffled about thinking of different gear as I sought advise and narrowed my choice.
Part of the hobby for me, is to experience different equipment. I'm probably more guilty of trying various gear than most folks here. ;-)

Abe, how is the new Sony TA-A1ES now that you've had it a month or so?
Jim
I have no complaints with the Sony TA-A1ES. It sounds nice but not quite up there with my Rogue Cronus Magnum tube integrated. I use both amps in my smallish home office / listening room combo. I can leave the Sony ON all day and listen while I work on the computer. I can do the same with the Rogue but at the expense of wearing out costly tubes for 'background music'. They both run a bit warm but that's not the issue for me.
Although I've had a couple wonderful sounding solid-state setups, I have found that they typically cost much more to achieve satisfying sound. I can achieve comparable or better sound with more modestly price vacuum tube gear. Go figure, but that has been my experience.
The Sony is fine but I have owned higher-end solid-state separates that sound noticeably better.
I wouldn't call it a giant killer but the Sony does perform better than my Denon PMA-2000ivr or the Marantz PM-8003. I'd like to try one of the Yamaha integrated amps maybe next year. I'm considering the Yamaha A-S2000 or A-S2100.

No kidding. I love hearing about your purchases, Abe.
Congrats. Yes, Abe you have owned some sweet gear. I always enjoy reading about the changes you guys make to your rigs. Keep us the good work!
