Has anyone compared the sound of these two high-powered solid state amps? (Driving B&W Matrix 801 II in this case.)
Thanks,
George

The Bryston is a well made PA amplifier for large public spaces like airports and arenas.
The Classe will fill your room and heart with wonderful music.
But seriously, I found the older Brystons to be grainy and irritating while the Classe of that era were smooth, a bit on the warm side, and very musical.
I never had a Classe amp that needed a 20 year warranty but the Bryston didn't either - because I threw it out of my listening room before the 1st year was even up. ;-)
As for current SST2 Brystons, they ARE smooth and no longer ear bleed machines. However, I still find them to be rather analytical, cold, sterile, etc..... but smooth unlike the old ones.
My Classe amp ownership history: DR-10, Classe 10, CA-100, CA-200, CA-300
My CA-200 . Newer versions of the CA-200 had the heat sinks on the sides of the amp like the CA-300. Pictured here is the older version that I owned before they moved the heat sinks and soon after went to the CA-201 style. And they had two styles of that model as well. One with smooth flat front panel. The later ones with very squared off face with horizontal grooves in it.

Wondering if the Classe products made in China a comparable to the Canadian amps and preamps of the past? I loved their amps...
Yes. some if not all, productions are in China now.
I have no idea. I haven't owned Classe gear in several years.
Abe- sidebar;
have you ever owned any BAT gear? If so, which model(s)?
Beautiful pics! Abe.
One more thought- the Classe' is a sonic match for B&W speakers. Consider both Transparent and Audioquest cables/cords.
George-
both are very fine power amps. If you have a big room and really want to open up those B&W speakers, then consider the Bryston.
Bryston's current SST2 series is very good, better than the older ST.
the 4BSST and 4BSST2 are a whole lot better.
I appreciate your response. Can you describe what areas of improvement one might expect to hear in the newer Bryston amps?
Thanks.
I found the original 4BST to be quite harsh and grainy as compared to the
later versions. The SST2 is the best of the lot by far.
Bryston makes very high quality products and they warranty them for 20
years. Even to 2nd and 3rd owners. No other manufacturer I know of does
this.
Bryston amps are particularly good with Magnepans, I have found.
Good luck.
Okay, thanks, Mike, for this clarification.
