Keep in mind that the EH 6922 is the current production 6H23-EB tube. The EH is an excellent choice for the AI, which is hard on tubes.

in my stash so I tried them in the line stage last nite. I just might like them better than the 6H23s

but I'm into my 19th year (3 then 3a) and have not experienced that. At least none have failed..........Thanks, Jim, for the tip on the EH-6922 though

Very hard on tubes, the average user/owner get about 1-2 years out of them before a replacement set is needed.
Cheers george
I have the newer AI 3B, and my tubes are doing just fine as they did with the 3. You have to take the advice of the designer and NOT use tubes that AI does NOT recommend for use. When you use NOS or others, it's no wonder that they don't last.
Sold NOS mullards to an M 3 owner. Crapped out in one week. Replaced them and same thing. Four days and they failed
refunded money but took a big financial hit as well.as.loosing valuable tubes no longer made.
I must be one lucky fucker (see above)

AI pushed a lot of current through the tubes. There is a guy who modifies the units ( more to CJ's specs) which lowers the tube strain. On a CJ, tube life with paralleled 6922's is extremely long many years: mine was well in excess of 7 years and still tested very strong.
AI runs the tubes at 4mA per side and the plates in parallel.... very low for a 6922.
Vp is 125.
Never measured the AI thanks for the Info. CJ also runs the plates in parallel and B+ is about 76 V
So they're running the current way up?
Opposite of AI.
The reason why they sound the way they do is because AI pushed (biased) the tube to it's max and maybe a bit more, reduce it to the way others use it and it will sound every one elses preamp the uses this configuration.

Wheezer(??) - see below.

With your DMM on Vdc, black lead to the back ground nut.
Red to the big coupling cap's lead facing the front of the chassis (V3,V4.
What's the reading at both caps?
with the selector at DCV x 1000 the needle moves three notches on the lower black scale. It also does not drop to zero and I don't know how to reset needle to zero

Are you saying it read 300V?
I guess so

your tubes are circling the drain.
Hook up the meter and send me a pic.
