I have owned L1, M3A (1998) and currently the L2 since 2004. Sound quality:
99% of my listening is classical piano. Plus I play. So timbre, pitch definition, tone, accuracy etc. are very important. I loved the M3A but the volume jump was at times to large for precise volume control so I sold my M3A and purchased the L2. The L2 volume control is continuous. I consider the M3A and L2 to sound the same. Maybe the M3A is slightly warmer in sound. No, I have not heard the L3 but if it is better than the L2 then it is a fantastic pre. I have an internet audio friend who sold his Calypso and bought a L3 and is very happy. Art has tempted me to purchase the L3 but I am having a hard time parting with my L2.

I have never owned Audible Illusions gear but I had the Aesthetix Calypso and Calypso Signature. I'd be curious to know what your friend heard in the Audible Illusions that he preferred over the Calypso.
As much as I liked the Aesthetix linestages, and they were excellent, they were not the best I've had in my system. Thanks.
I sent my friend an email and invited him to weigh in on the conversation.
