I wonder why anyone needs 30 db of gain these days? It seems that many digital sources today can nearly drive power amplifiers without any further gain if it weren't for impedance matching issues.
My 80s vintage ARC SP9 has 21 db and that is useful primarily when using the phono input with moving coil cartridges. The CD input has only 12 db and is more than sufficient. I recently purchased an SP20 with a similar 14 db gain value.

And some numbers don't make sense. Of course 30db gain is way too much. Then it says the max input is a whopping 9VRMS. Then it says this: Distortion: .10% at 1.5V rms, 20-20kHz, into 50kOhm. Less than .12% at 1V out 20-20kHz into IHF load
Lets say you have a hi output DAC thats sending say 3V to this, Not that much under 1% bothers me but show me a number. Some scenarios will have power amps that need 2, 2.5 volts or more so tell us a number for that.
Still scratching my head.

Yeah. It's a mystery.
WTF are they thinking?
