In Reply to: RE: Integrated Amp 2-ch w/ built-in DAC, sub $2000 USD ? posted by AbeCollins on August 04, 2014 at 13:48:45
The to-be-determined integrated is for the family room CableTV / AppleTV / Universal player, and maybe a turntable someday.
Prefer a 2-ch integrated with analog inputs as well as digital inputs. A MM phono input would be a bonus.
Need to minimize equipment and cable clutter, to conserve space, easy to operate, and good WAF. This is not a multi-channel surround setup so don't want the complexity of a surround processor or AV receiver.
Inmates have listed the following so far:
- Wyred4 Sound MINT
- Hegel H80
- Peachtree Audio
- Rotel Integrated
- NuForce DDA100
- Bel Canto C5i
There are two Rotel Integrated Amps that have me curious because they offer everything I'm looking for including the phono stage, and they're reasonably priced. And, I do not believe that they use ICEpower Class D modules.
I like the versatility, cosmetics, and compactness of the Bel Canto C5i but my ICEpower experience has me less than excited about it. But... it's just a family room and maybe Bel Canto ICEpower sound has improved in the past 6 or 7 years. My Bel Canto M300 experience was a disappointment.
If I'm not mistaken, all of the recommendations have been Class D amps except for the Rotel and Hegel. Right?

No DAC but maybe some trade-off to get a Phono input...

Haven't heard it; have read plenty of good reviews.

I'm confident you'll like the Peachtree Nova 125SE. I had the Decco2 and really liked it as a DAC/Pre, but thought the power amp stage was a little flat. The Nova 125SE changed all of that; it's a fantastic sounding integrated. I'm considering one for the same setting you describe.
