I was hoping someone could tell me how many watts a 4B will run in class A before switching over to AB and I am using my Rotel RA 1412 as a preamp for the 4B running my DM 6 speakers on the Bryston as well a a set of Energy XL 126 powered by the Rotel .will the rotel pre ok running 2 amps or would it be better to uncouple the rotel amp

There is no switch, it is more a gradual shift as the input signal forces the output stage to draw more current than the quiescent point. In the end though, knowing the percent of the output power in class A will tell you almost nothing about the sound or quality of the sound of an amplifier.

It will probably vary slightly based on what generation of 4B you have as there have been at least 5 since the early 90's. You'd probably have better luck contacting Bryston directly or post the question over at Audiocircles where Bryston has their own section and many Bryston fans hang out there.
