Yes, its an Extech multimeter, a quality instrument.

Maybe check the DVM's reading across a brand new 1.5 volt battery. Like a AAA sized one. Just to be sure.

That would be DC voltage, he's checking current directly with a current meter.
The amp has a 1/4 jack and you place a current meter in series with the circuit.

To answer FenderLover's qn.: I did exactly that with a new AAA: got 1.57v; and a new 9v: got 8.91v, so the tester is not generally wacko, but I don't understand enough about things to understand your question here, Tre'
