I only had one opportunity to listen to this amp way back in the mid 90s. And my memory of it is a little fuzzy. What are people's thoughts on this amp compared to other high end amps? I just remember it being very musical with excellent soundstaging.
Follow Ups:
I have the little brother 3 DT which is 45 watts with the double trans. It works very well with my Vandersteens although not the last word in dynamics, it gets sound stage right. I wanted the 2 DT because I have a 2 preamp but I never heard it with a tube preamp.
...and was blown away by the midbass punch. It controlled my mid/woofers better than anything I had tried. AC/DC 'Let's Get it Up' was a revelation. The rest of the range was excellent as well.
I brought it back sorrowfully, having concluded that I couldn't afford it (demo amp costing about 2500 dollars at Audio Lab in Camb., MA in 1997). Perhaps not as liquid sounding as the Counterpoint amplifier I later settled on, which I also couldn't afford ;) but a great amplifier nonetheless.
The DT was the double transformer version, the HC the one under it I believe.
These are all so well built, they should last for another 10 years at least.
I remember being impressed the one time I heard this amp back in the 90s. But its been so long since then, memory is fuzzy about the kind of sound the amp made. Ever time I ask someone that knows these amps, they say they are well worth getting. Yet not many people know these amps. I wonder why, if they were so good? Im thinking of teaming it with a Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 preamp.
