Thanks Guys!
As the title stated, I really do understand how bold an ask it was and I am thankful that an inmate reached out privatley and is helping me out. But for the sake of community, I should probably explain a little better. Having been in this hobby for a few years, I, and a few good buddies, have built up a collection of gear that gets cycled out, repuropsed, traded, loaned, sold etc. But none of us had anything that could power the maggies. I though one of my online kindred spirits might be like us but have that elusive piece.
I just recently got my mmgs back because I had finally found an affordable amp to drive them. I know there are mixed reviews about the old Audio Research solid state stuff, but, on my system, with a great tube pre, the D-100 sounded good. The rebuilding of this system had been going on for a year so I had been pretty much listening to my ipod for that long. The last two pieces I could afford were a new cart for the turntable and an MXBII DAC. The dac got here last week and a good friend is coming from Atlanta this weekend to hang out, drink beer and listen to music (I am buying his old cart).
In anticipation of this weekend, about 4 weeks ago, I took my amp to Just Audio to have a new LED standby light and power switch installed, as well as have the binding posts cleaned because I was getting some noise in the left channel. The tech called me to let me know that the work was done but the left channel was failing due to a bad anlalog module. AR has them but delivery and instalation was going to take some time. So here I sit, weekend of music planned with out of town guest, new gear and no amp. Boo.
We have not becasue we ask not, so I asked and within 24 hours got hooked up!
I love this community and it never hurts to aks. The worst they can say is no.
Peace,
Bhek
Whatever sounds good...do that.
Follow Ups:
I am in G-Burg, but on travel. The Crown drove a pair of SMGa in its first life with me. The Maggies really liked the 60+ short term current capability.
I have a Bel Canto, EVO 200.6, that I drove all kinds of Maggie's very well...I use to own 2 when I had a full HT set-up, but always bridged two channels together....nice amp...it took a Sanders Magtech to replace it...
I have no problem shipping it...if you take care of the shipping...
Contact me offline if interested...
thanks
Mark
