Has anyone tried "Indeed class A valve buffer amp" (Hong Kong) sold on e-bay for $94.99? It is equipped with one 5814 vintage tube (probably, GE). Does it really improve the sound of CDs (particularly, does it help to eliminate excessive sibilance (s-s-sh)?
Follow Ups:
Excessive sibilance is "typically" due to RF bouncing around the chassis or in the circuit.
Cheers!
"eliminate excessive sibilance (s-s-sh)"
It might do this if it was a low pass filter. If you have excess sibilance (and ANY sibilance is excess) the problem is in the CD player or preamp. It makes a lot more sense to fix the problem at the source than to put in a "filter" that may do no more than add noise and distortion. That device doesn't actually do anything; it just adds a layer of noise and distortion to your signal. You may like the sound of the noise and distortion.
...is similar to the same circuitry within their G2 or G3 Headphone Amp/Preamp. I have used the G2 hdphone amp as a preamp and cd buffer. It sounds fantastic. My daughter uses the G3 hdphn amp as a buffer and loves it. The headphone amp/preamp is the way to go because of it's versatility, IMHO...
