This is more of recommendation than a full review. I've owned many high end systems and amplifiers over the years and the Krell 400xi was always my go to unit in-between other purchases. Recently I decided to send my 400xi to The Upgrade Company for a full signature upgrade. All I can say is that I recieved back an integrated amp that performs at such an exhalted level that I am absolutely stunned. It performs at the same level as my Krell FPB400cx/KCT combo or the FBI which I almost purchased before I did the upgrade. Anyone thinking about changing equipment out should definately call Dave Schulte at The Upgrade Company first to see if he can offer your old gear a new lease on life in the High End!!

...I can't find on their website where they actually tell you what they do to various units they modify. Where can I find this..thanks.
...I just found it..they won't tell you. Hmmmm.
What David Schulte does in his mods is a more closely guarded secret than KFC's 27 herbs and spices. That is why his modded pieces have horrible resale value. Buyers don't know what they are getting. I know from first hand experience.
Proof is in the results. Dave does not give away his proprietary techniques....I know I wouldn't. He's been in business for 30+ years, which speaks volumes in itself. I know Jim Winey of Magnepan uses The Upgrade Company frequently and I respect his sensibilities immensely! What I know is that I recieved back a better piece of Hi Fi that now performs way beyond my investment. For those still shelling out thousands of dollars for the next audio fix and getting the inevitable let down, by all means continue the same. If you want to maximize what you have then Dave Schulte can be a tremendous asset.
