Return to K&K Audio / Lundahl Transformers
84.28.48.41
Hello all,
Since about a week I use a RAKK-DAC in my main system and it is really a very good sounding DAC! I have to mention, that I use the RAKK-DAC with the passive (transformer-) output and a TentLabs Clock, for the digital-input I use a Canare "real" 75 Ohm RCA. Before building all together I have "burned-in" the LL1674-outputtransformers for more than a month, using an old CD-player and a burn-in CD. The signal from the CD-player went straight into the passive input and the secondairy of the transformers were loaded with 3kOhm resistors. I've compared the RAKK-DAC with a modified AudioNote DAC1 and the Ackdac, in my opinion the RAKKDAC is the absolute winner!

Some more details on how you think the RAKK dac is better than the Audionote piece and the Ack! dac would be appreciated. So please post some more!Glad you are enjoying the RAKK dac. I really think that if you 'listen' to your designs you will find all the ways to improve upon the design. The RAKK dac went through some serious R&D by two very gifted and aurally cognizant folks that like to listen to a piece day in and day out. You end up tapping your foot instead of listening to electronic gear.
Hello AnandR,Well I always find it difficult to tell in words how an apparatus is sounding. All three DAC's wich I mentioned are not bad at all and are in my possession. In short: the AudioNote DAC is very smooth; the AckDAC has a bit more detail than the AudioNote DAC but is a little less smooth. The RAKKDAC has even a little more details and air than the AckDAC and besides that it is also very smooth and natural sounding. With the RAKKDAC wood is more sounding like wood, brass is more sounding like brass etc..
So the RAKKDAC is the clear winner for me. In the near future I want to build a TentLabs XO-3 in my Teac CD-transport and want to make use of a "Tent-Link"-configuration. (For details look at: www.TentLabs.com).Best regards,
