Return to K&K Audio / Lundahl Transformers
Well, how can I say this without seeming self-serving...One of the guys here in NC (Joe Rosovitz) refitted his push-pull parallel EL34 amps with the new LL1679AM/PP transformers and the results are immensely pleasing. He left them here in my system to evaluate. I have had prototype amorphous output transformers in my KR32B push-pull amplifiers since December and have been delighted with the music played on them ever since. However, the production transfomers seem to be even better sounding than the prototypes, because this triode-connected EL34 amp is very nearly everything that I expect from a DHT amp. I have been a partisan of 300B amps for nearly ten years now and this is an unexpected result. Is there a chance that I will get almost as much music out of a $15 tube as out of a $125-$500 tube? Scary!
I know that they are relatively expensive, but they will transform (pun intended) your perception of recorded music. Call me if you want more details.
Follow Ups:
Well, if revealing the truth about the magic that these new transformers perform in my amps is self serving than so be it !Initially, when Kevin installed the prototypes in his system, it was readily apparent that there was a sonic improvement across the board. There was just 'more' of everything, detail, significantly better soundstage, etc...
I was astounded by the difference that these AM/PP outputs made. It was heard immediately and appears, from Kevin's comments,to be getting bigger and better !
I built my amps to take advantage of a common tube. It has turned out to be a most uncommon experience and a very pleasant one.
Are the new transformers worth the cost? YES !
Is it worth the effort and cost to convert an existing amp ? YES.
