I brought this in a garage sale becasue the price is right. However I don't know anything about these speakers. Anyone out there could give information on these on how they sound or what kind of cabinets needed is much appreciated.

Follow Ups:
Keith, these were my first component speakers, purchased, if memory serves (and as good help gets harder to find, it is becoming a less reliable servant every day), in '59 (that's 1959, wise asses) from Bremy Electronics in Paterson, New Jersey. The 6303 was University's second-best coax, yeilding pride of place only to the redoubtable 315. Basically, the 6303 was a 15" almost-full range diffusacone-type with an HF206 tweeter at its apex.
The HF206 is a great-sounding tweeter-I compared it exhaustively to the EV T35 and T350, and consider it to be superior to either. The woofer is stiffly suspended and relatively low in mass.
The 6303 likes large reflex enclosures. My own pair were built into cabinets with the cinderblock basement for rear walls-one was about 15 cubic feet; the other, around 10. The ports were tuned by ear, as all ports should be. They were powered by the then-new Dyna Stereo 70, and the sound quality was probably the best in town.
Then I had the life-altering experience of hearing my first pair of Tannoys, whereupon I sold the 6303s, the proceeds financing the purchase of a single 15," which after some months of scheming and finaggling, was joined by another. I have been scheming, finaggling, and listening to Tannoys ever since. Indeed, I am doing all 3 as I write this.
If another pair of 6303s fell into my lap, I'd put them in the most voluminous, stoutest cabinets I could find or build, then tune the ports by ear, since this is the organ I most depend upon in my music listening.

I picked up a pair of these last summer off of E-Bay. They were just too interesting looking to pass up. I have run them in the basement on the bench and they sound pretty good, bass is very good for just sitting on a bench. I measured the T/S parameters of the two and they were closely matched, good QA, and if I remember correctly they had a Qts of about 1.15. If you want the plots of the T/S data e-mail me off line. I have not done anything with them yet but would like to put them in a large baffle at some point.Hope that helps,
.

Freddy,Here are the T/S parameters for the 6201 and Dif 12.
6201
Fs 50.5 hz
Re 7.8 ohms
Le 1.17 mH
Qms 2.35
Qes 0.64
Qts 0.50
Vas 3.28 cf
Cm 345 u/newton
Mm 28.8 gms
Sens 94.6 db/w/mDiffusicone 12
Fs 49.7 Hz
Re 5.82 ohms
Le 0.66 mH
Qms 2.70
Qes 0.57
Qts 0.47
Vas 4.03 cf
Cm 364 u/newton
Mm 28.2 gms
Sens 95.7 db/w/mAs you can see, their T/S parameters are very similar. Under the hood, the 6201 magnet structure appears identical to the Dif 12. I have not tried out the 6201, but the Dif 12 works quite well in a 4 cf BR. Bass is well defined and extended to the high 30s.
Regards,
.

bless ya Bob - really appeciate - those are nice specs - don't have Diffusicone anymore (have one 6201)are you familiar with Sound Craftsmen 2640TX? - have 3 - will L-pad work to adjust? - control is missing - also felt on 2 - these feel relatively heavy and won't mount in Karlson 12 - wonder if Q is about 0.5 too? - look like they'd sound very good
Hi Freddy,Sorry, I don't have values for that speaker. I have measurements for the two I bought. I would guess that based on the age, most of these speakers have a Qts greater than or equal to 1.0. These were made before the acoustic suspension design started to dominate the way woofers were designed and built.
Hi Martin - I'd also expect Qt be around 1 (got 6201 in Eliptoflex - kinda like a R-J)wonder why "stubby-horn" shelf-vents were prominent in early 1950's desings such as those by Araham Cohen - did those "kinda" work with some parameters? - some vintage woofers had very low qts and high vas and sound good to this day.
never had 6303 - look at hifilit.com:

KeithDo a seach online. There are some pages out there with info on the older University speakers, including old spec pages. I don't remember the source, but found them when looking into some University drivers a while back. Good luck!
