"The HD 580 was replaced by the HD 600 "I think your wrong there . I bought the HD580 and the HD 600 myself (almost 3 years ago). I found the HD580 ok, but no match fot the HD 600 (which i still have).
Price in 1998 DM400 or ~$200 (mailorder in Germany, much cheaper than in the Netherlands)

I've read the the two use the same drivers. The 600 set is better mathch. Other than that, the more robust construction will isolate more resonance. This is 2nd hand knowledge so take that with a grain of salt. Maybe you happened to get a 580 pair that was well matched?

I have a pair of the 580 Jubilees, purchased from Audio Advisor just
before the 600s came out. They are/seem to me to be a significant
upgrade from the standard 580s and extremely close to the 600s.
Part of this is due to the extremely close matching of the drivers.
I did compare them to a friend's 600s briefly.I have not seen them available since the 600s came out.

Sorry Frankie no. 4, I assumed the HD 580 is being discontinued since it has been on closeout for about a year. The HD 600 is still being sold at full price in the USA and remains nearest to the HD 580 in terms of price, features and position in the Sennheiser product line (I wish it was $200 in the USA, I'd buy a pair). Perhaps, I should have said, "the HD 600 continues the legacy of the upper Sennheiser product line while the HD 580 fades away." I should have mentioned this was my opinion and not a confirmed fact from Sennheiser headquarters.
Aloha,

I see what you mean, $350 at audioadvisor for the HD 600 is much more than i paid for it. I mail ordered it from www.hifinesse.de at he time.
