I've been using the new Tung-sol 6550's for some time now. They do not, in my systems anyway (not VTL), sound much like the SED 6550's. They have a much warmer signature, especially in the bass. The SED's are much more linear. Which you might like more probably depends a lot on the speakers/amp you are using and your tonal tastes. I too have a stash of SED's (including EL34', 6L6GC's, 6550's and KT88's), never know if might rain again. :-)
