Rocky Road: Bettye Lavette at the Barns by SWG

I caught Bettye Lavette at the Barns at Wolftrap last night and she brought the house down with her rousing vocals and excellent "show-womanship". This was quite a contrast to the Ryan Adams performance at DAR Constitution Hall the night before. Sure, the musical genres are different and the venues are several orders of magnitude different in size, but the point here is that Bettye appreciated her time on stage and relished in the interaction she had with her audience. Her band was also enjoying the show. If you like soul and blues, don't miss Bettye if she comes anywhere near your town, she sings a great song and puts on one hell of a show.

Her new disc, "Scene of the Crime" with the Drive By Truckers is pretty darn good too.
