We are not discussing connectors here (DVI vs HDMI). We are discussion a flaw in the delivery of digital video from the Onkyo. And as for the DVD3910, I think there may be an issue with Kris Deering's player as has been pointed out by another AVS member who confirms a non-clipped signal from his HDMI connection to a DVI connection (all 3 bars from Digital Video Essentials).

Below black and above white are not confined to test discs. Both are allowed for in the DVD format, HDTV and regular broadcast TV. The quality of the picture is compromised if you clip the video signal at either or both ends. These are the facts, despite what you think.

When you buy a dozen eggs from the grocery, don't you expect there to be 12 eggs in the box when you open it? Shouldn't you expect your DVD player to pass all of the video signal when you send it to your display?

While you cannot tell the difference between DVI and HDMI video connections, you can tell the difference between a correct video signal and a clipped one. Changes in picture quality occur around black and around white when the signal is clipped. Loss of these signals doesn't just affect below digital level 16 and above digital level 235, it also affects the signals above and below where the clipping occurs -- just as in digital audio.

As for your DLP projector, is it limited to digital PC levels? If so, that's why you would see no difference. It's not capable of processing the entire signal.

Your comment is contrary to what has been said by Charles Pointon (the final word on digital video), Joe Kane, Stacey Spears, Don Munsil, Guy Kuo, Greg Rogers... Do I really need to continue? Before you mouth off about video, do a little research. I can't believe you post on AVS Forum and lack this general knowlege. Below is a link to two threads and information from the experts, just so you don't think I'm making this up.
