My introduction to "HiFi" was two boxed recordings from Capital Full Dimensional Sound in the mid-fifties, Popular Instrumentals and Popular Vocals. A neighbor had an amp he had designed with a separate power supply and tubes that blinked according to draw, a Gerrard (sp?) changer with a GE variable reluctance cartridge, and, IIRC, a JBL L34 corner loaded horn. I was amazed. It started what has been a more than 60-year fascination with music reproduction.
